Bi-Fuel Conversion for a Stationary Gen-Set

ComAp's simple bi-fuel conversion modifies your original diesel power generation engine so that it uses natural gas as the main fuel - substantially reducing operating costs. It works by introducing gas into the engine and then electronically controlling gas flow dependent on the engine speed and output. Minimal Downtime - Maximum Savings.

Save Money Using ComAp’s bi-fuel system can reduce your diesel bill by up to 70%, by substituting diesel for gas
Reduce Emissions ComAp’s bi-fuel system allows for a significant reduction in the production of Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, and other harmful greenhouse gases
No Loss of Power There is no loss of power after ComAp’s bi-fuel conversion, the engine has the same power rating as did when it was running on diesel only

Situation

The cost of diesel is rising every day, and users are constantly looking to save money on fuel and reduce harmful emmissions from diesel engines.

ComAp Solution

ComAp, a market leader in engine control solutions, have developed an easy to fit bi-fuel management package including a range of InteliBifuel controllers for use as a standard control platform for diesel generators. The new control system is ideally suited to generator packagers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) looking to deliver more economically beneficial power packages. ComAp's simple bi-fuel conversion modifies your original diesel power generation engine so that it uses natural gas as the main fuel - substantially reducing operating costs. It works by introducing gas into the engine and then electronically controlling gas flow dependent on engine speed and output. Bi-fuel conversion requires virtually no engine modification and brings benefits in every application:

  • Affordable diesel engines combined with inexpensive natural gas
  • Economical solution for slow-speed, middle-speed and high-speed engines
  • Flexible use of fuel (can even use gas that would normally be flared as a by-product)
  • Guaranteed power output
  • Efficient and safe operation with lower emissions
  • Longer engine life and reduced maintenance costs
Bi-Fuel Conversion for a Stationary Gen-Set
  1. InteliBifuel does not interfere with the existing gen-set / engine controller therefore the functionality of the current application remains the same after Bi-fuel conversion.
  2. The InteliBifuel conversion application is suitable for any type of gen-set/engine mode of operation (island, synchronization, paralleling).
  3. Financial savings are achieved via the substitution of up to 80% of the existing engines diesel consumption with gas (extended operating times without refuelling are also realized).
  4. InteliBifuel controllers offer fuel flexibility and seamless transition between diesel and Bi-fuel operation modes as required (e.g. in case that gas is not available).
  5. Various types of gases can be used as the substitute fuel: natural gas, well gas, landfill gas, coal gas, propane gas, biogas etc.
  6. Possible emission reductions of CO2, NOx, SOx and PM can be expected compared to original 100% diesel operation.
  7. The InteliBifuel solution is a fully automatic solution which is mainly concerned with engine safety, gas is dynamically adjusted and optimised via a gas throttle valve.
  8. All parts and parameters of the Bi-fuel solution are monitored and accessible from a single point.
