The control and commanding system of the power supply for the Skyguide control centre

Backup Power for an Airspace Control System

Skyguide is an air navigation company which manages and monitors the airspace over Switzerland. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety of all Swiss airspace and of adjoining airspace areas in Germany, Austria, France and Italy.

Due to the dangerous nature of supervising multiple aircraft in flight over mutiple countries, the control and command system’s power supply must be absolutely reliable, and this is why an update of the backup energy system was recently carried out. Three Detroit Diesel generators (3x600KVA) were used and it was decided to implement the ComAp system for control and monitoring the four mains, four emergency, two bus-tie breakers, and three generator breakers plus the entire engine and load-control system. The project was designed and installed by Avesco.
